Your teeth and periodontal health have an interdependent relationship, which means healthy teeth depend on the support and protection of healthy bone and gums. At Hidden Lake Dental Associates we focus on prevention and early intervention to protect your teeth and gums against
08902 gum disease. While gum disease is a widespread oral health problem, with periodic visits to our state-of-the-art dental office for checkups and care, we can halt the onset and progress of this condition, helping you enjoy a lifetime of excellent oral health.
08902 Gum Disease
Gum disease occurs when plaque accumulates below the gum line, infecting and inflaming the tissues that support the teeth. Although brushing, flossing and limiting your intake of sugar every day helps manage plaque buildup, protecting your teeth and gums, it’s also important to visit our office twice a year for a professional teeth cleaning and examination in order to prevent
08902 gum disease. During a teeth cleaning, we can thoroughly remove any residual plaque buildup from difficult to reach areas between your teeth and gums, and offer guidance as to how you can brush and floss more effectively at home. Periodic examinations allow for the earliest possible detection of gum disease, when it is still in its initial stages and easiest to treat. Gingivitis is the first stage of gum disease, and may be overlooked as it does not typically present discomfort. However, you may notice some bleeding and swelling around your gums, especially when you brush or floss. To accurately diagnose gingivitis, our dentist will perform a comprehensive examination, assisted by advanced digital radiography, as needed. We may recommend a two part periodontal treatment for gingivitis called scaling and root planing, which involves removing plaque from below the gum line, then smoothing the root surfaces of teeth to help the gums reattach. Treating gingivitis from its outset prevents it from progressing to a more advanced stage of periodontal disease.
At Hidden Lake Dental Associates, we provide gentle, precise care to preserve the health of your teeth and gums. With preventive care we stop
08902 gum disease before it causes more serious damage to your oral health. To learn more or to schedule an appointment, call today.
